A lovely rest day in Hobbiton

Day 29. 0km. Total 800km. Rest Day in Hobbiton.

I didn’t sleep much last night in my fancy single room. Too much Wi-Fi, input, things to organise. I talk to friends and family in Germany while being comfortably in my bed in the early morning. At 8.30am I am taking the free hostel breakfast, a crowded place with toast, jam, butter, milk and muesli, tea or coffee. Then it’s already time to head to the intercity bus which takes me to Matamata in about 80minutes. These buses are great with free Wi-Fi on-board. In Matamata the Hobbiton tour bus is already waiting and takes us up to the Hobbiton sight for a 2h guided tour. Hobbiton is so lovely, these tiny cute houses, and all the details that make it interesting and special. I let the pics speak for themselves. It’s just a pity that you are being a bit rushed through as there are so many tourists. Having paid 79$ for this I don’t like at all not being able to spend as much time as I would like but there are just so many people here to visit (about 4,000 on a busy day). I still think the money was worth it 🙂

At the end of the visit you get a free drink (for my part an apple cider) before being taken back first to the souvenir shop and then to Matamata where I enjoy a coffee before my Intercity bus takes me belated back to Hamilton, for dinner in my hostel and maybe a Friday evening out in Hamilton with fellow hikers, let’s see.
